A Determined Valentine

A romantic Arizona inmate broke out of jail so that he could spend Valentine’s Day with his girlfriend. The 40-year old scaled a 12-foot wall and crawled through razor wire, before catching a ride to the Gallopin’ Goose Salon and Grill, where he’d arranged to meet his sweetie. That sure tops “I’d climb the highest mountain” AND “I’d swim the deepest river.” Nevertheless, authorities tracked the fugitive down and took him back to jail.

Humor through the years

I’ve definitely decided that humor does change as the years go by…50 years to be exact. Two weeks ago I saw for the second time, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty with Danny Kaye playing the part of Walter. I had seen it 50 years ago, and I laughed as heartily this time as I did then. Three days later, I saw the film with Ben Stiller playing Walter Mitty. I didn’t laugh nearly as much, though it was full of lots of great special effects, and Ben Stiller did a good job.

So…I went to the library and checked out the James Thurber short story upon which both films were based. I read it and smiled a lot. I did not laugh.

Humor definitely does change as the years go by.

I just read that a person must walk for 37 minutes on the treadmill to work off the calories in one glass of eggnog.  Thank goodness I never did like eggnog!

I just read that Hillary Clinton was paid $450,000 to make a single speech to the Chicago Mercantile Exchange’s Global Financial Leadership Conference in Naples, Fla.

A bitter divorce

A Colorado man testified that to keep his estranged wife from getting half of his life savings, he converted the $500,000 into gold and dumped the gold into a trash can!!!

Now that’s what I call SOUR GRAPES!!!

Bubbles & Bella

I’ve always believed that dogs are supposed to be a man’s best friend, but I just read about a black Labrador who has become the inseparable pal of an elephant living in a Myrtle Beach S.C. safari park. The elephant’s name is Bubbles and the dog’s name is Bella. Bubbles  has learned to throw a ball for Bella, who races to retrieve it. The two also swim together, and Bella loves to dive off of Bubbles’ head. They have an interspecies friendship. What a great example for us humans!

Dispatcher goes "above and beyond" the call of duty

 

When a bride-to-be in Washington State discovered that her wedding dress had been stolen from her car on the morning of her wedding day, she called 911 in tears. The dispatcher sent the police, and then asked what size the dress was. Amanda (the bride-to-be) turned out to be the same dress size as the dispatcher, who just happened to have been married a few months before. She offered her dress to Amanda, and the wedding ceremony had a “happily ever after” ending!
